![]() Virtual worlds is people working in virtual worlds. "Metaverse" isn't people working in virtual worlds. They just want to raise the bar instead of joining as a follower. Regarding Apple - IMO they won't cancel their product. Having said that - I think the revolution is right around the corner. There’s also a new term - assisted reality but again - it's not gonna work at the moment. There are some headsets which already provide this in the focal area. This kind of apps will work but only when the headsets become light, and their screen densities are higher than an eye can see (or at least when things like subpixel antialiasing can be simulated). People watch fancy promo videos and get excited just to get disappointed as soon as they try it. Virtual screens provide no added value and create a horrible experience (e.g., eye and head fatigue). Office and productivity apps in VR? What's the point? Monitors play their role more than fine in this kind of activity. The most prominent mistake people make at the moment is trying to push VR into areas where it doesn’t make sense. My bet: the story will be that metaverse was never around VR and "worlds" but user ownership, gaming on the blockchain, re-thinking the work, and. Where all the consulting companies and web3 who created the metaverse narrative will pivot? No major tech company or VC funding focused on it. Metaverse, as virtual worlds and people working in them, won't happen soon. ❓Will you bet your career on Facebook solving this puzzle alone ❓ ![]() But even their employees struggle with it (link: ) ✅ That says that, at least in the short term, none of them bets that "metaverse" will be a thing!įrom big tech, that leaves only Facebook (Meta) with its bet on VR it is their last lifeline since Apple and Google choked their user distribution channel. □ Google is nowhere to be seen around this space, with (MyPoV) pressure from shareholders to do something as a catch-up in the AI game. □ Apple has postponed its plans to release the VR headset indefinitely, with rumors about less advanced AR (augmented reality) sets shortly (they bet on AR heavily for a long time). □ Among Microsoft's layoffs, they have laid off the virtual/mixed reality teams and the AltVR team (I liked it). Layoffs give a glimpse into where companies' next bets are.
